The Calgary Flames close out their preseason schedule tonight as they host the Winnipeg Jets in the latter half of a home-and-home.
The Flames will be looking to get back on track following a loss on Thursday night in hopes of entering the regular season on a positive note.
Let's take a look at the Flames projected lineup in the final tuneup game:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler Bouma - Backlund - Frolik Ferland - Bennett - Jooris Bollig - Stajan - Jones
Giordano - Hamilton Russell - Wideman Kulak - Engelland
Ramo Hiller
What to watch:
- Often times whoever starts the preseason finale (see all other teams) starts in the season opener so, barring a very poor showing, it's probably safe to say Ramo will be starting Wednesday night against Vancouver. Personally I'd go with Jonas Hiller - he had the better save percentage last year and in the preseason - but it's obviously not my call.
- I like the decision to play Sam Bennett at center. He looked good playing alongside Frolik and Backlund on the 2nd line but this a) balances the offense and; b) allows him to play his natural position.
- Brett Kulak playing and Ryan Wilson not playing probably means the former edged out the latter for a spot on opening night. Obviously things could change but it seems like the 6th defense spot is his to lose.
- Lance Bouma is not a top-6 forward. I think the Flames would be better off putting Mason Raymond in for Brandon Bollig, putting Bouma on the 4th line and Raymond with Backlund and Frolik. I think his speed would compliment them nicely and believe he's a better fit for that slot.
