#CBJ officially announce G Oscar Dasnk has been loaned to Rogle BK in Sweden
— Alison (@AlisonL) August 6, 2015We've known about this move for months now as there is not a spot available for Dansk this year.
Anton Forsberg will be the starter in Cleveland this season and rightfully so. Forsberg was great last year putting up a. 927 SV% in 30 games for Springfield.
With Joonas Korpisalo coming over to North America late last year it means the AHL back-up role is taken as well.
Going back to Sweden was in the best interest for the team and for Dansk. The hope for Dansk is that he can find the form that made him the 31st overall pick in 2012. That season he was great posting a .910 SV% in the SuperElit, which ranked second among U18 goalies who played at least 25 games.
Since that season it's been all downhill for Dansk. He was picked third overall in the CHL import draft by the Erie Otters and came over to Erie for the 2012-13 season. He struggled in Erie with an .888 SV%. I'm willing to give him a pass for that season as Erie was a bad team. Their best player was arguably a 15yr old Connor McDavid, and the team won just 14 games.
The next season was better. Dansk had a .909 SV% which put him 10th in the league essentially average for a starter. Given the talent on Erie (McDavid, Brown, Fox, Burakovsky) and the fact that Dansk lead the led the league is GAA, I believe his SV% should have been higher. Dansk also imploded in the playoffs putting up .797 SV% in 3 games before being replaced by Devin Williams.
This past season Dansk made the jump to the AHL where again he struggled. He had a .880 SV% for Springfield in 21 games. The ECHL wasn't any easier as Dansk had just a .889 SV% in 11 games.
The return to Sweden should help Dansk as he has been dominate when playing in his home country. Whether it be in the SuperElit as mentioned above or the World Juniors. Dansk was almost unbeatable in Malmo in 2014. He had a .926 SV% for the tournament, winning best goaltender as Sweden took home silver.
Hopefully Dansk can continue his success in Sweden and salvage his career.
