New Jersey Devils Announce Roster For 2016 Prospects Challenge (NHL)

The New Jersey Devils have announced their roster in advance of next weekend's 2016 Prospect Challenge in Buffalo.

Here's a look at the players that will be participating:

Forwards: Nick Lappin, Pavel Zacha, Blake Coleman, Michael McLeod, Miles Wood, John Quenneville, Brandon Baddock, Ryan Kujawinski, Blake Pietila, Jan Mandat, Kevin Rooney, Brandon Gignac, Nathan Bastian, Joseph Blandisi and Blake Speers.

Defensemen: Steve Santini, Josh Jacobs, Marcus Crawford, Colton White, Colby Sissons, Ralph Jarratt and Alexander Kuquali.

Goaltenders: Ken Appleby, Evan Cormier and MacKenzie Blackwood.

The defense cupboard isn't exactly overflowing with talent but as a whole the Devils are bringing a lot more talent to this tournament than in recent years. Headlined by forwards McLeod, Zacha, Quenneville and Blandisi, who dressed in 41 NHL games last season, the Devils have ho shortage of fire power. They look pretty good in goal, too.

I'm not at all surprised the Devils are bringing in undrafted free agent Marcus Crawford for a look. He is teammates with Evan Cormier, who the Devils drafted in June, so their scouts have seen Crawford and obviously they liked him enough to give him a look. As I mentioned their defense core is a little shallow, too, so it definitely can't hurt to bring him along with no strings attached.

On top of the Devils, the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins will be participating in this mini-tournament.
