Islanders Rookie Camp Roster Announced (NHL)

The Islanders rookie camp begins Friday at the Northwell Ice Center. Here are the 23 players who will take the ice at the Al Arbour Rink

Out of the 23 players, there are three players who can potentially make the opening night roster, defensemen Ryan Pulock and Adam Pelech and forward Mathew Barzal. Barring a disastrous camp, Pulock appears to have locked up the sixth defenseman spot. Pelech could push him a bit but he needs to play on a regular basis. If he doesn't win a top-six spot he will likely start the season at Bridgeport. Scott Mayfield signed a one-way deal over the summer and will be the team's seventh defenseman.

Barzal, who was the team's final cut last training camp is ineligible for the AHL. If he has as strong a camp as last season he can get at least the nine game tryout to start the season before the team decides what to do with him for the season.

The Islanders prospects will host the Philadelphia Flyers prospects Wednesday the 21 at the Northwell Ice Center.

One name who is not on the roster is 2016 first-round pick Kieffer Bellows. NCAA players are not allowed to attend NHL training camps. Bellows, who is entering his freshman year at Boston University, is ranked third on ISS Hockey's Top 30 Incoming Freshmen list, which was released Thursday.
