The New Jersey Devils will announce this afternoon the hiring of John Hynes as their new head coach. Hynes was bench boss of the Pittsburgh Penguins AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for five years and was brought into the Penguins organization by new Devils GM Ray Shero.
The hiring of a younger head coach like Hynes is an indicator that the Devils will embark on a rebuild instead of their practice of the last few years to plug holes with aging veterans like Jaromir Jagr and Scott Gomez.
