Hotstove: Who Won The Trade Between The Philadelphia Flyers & LA Kings? (Flyers)

In this edition of the hotstove we share our thoughts on Philadelphia sending Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn (50% salary retained on both) to Los Angeles in exchange for Jordan Weal and a 3rd round pick.

Todd Cordell

Luke Schenn is probably a little better than he's given credit for and a change of scenery could (emphasis on could) help Lecavalier but I like this deal from Philadelphia's perspective.

As a rebuilding team they were able to shed some salary, drop some dead weight (they weren't using Lecavalier) and get younger while also accumulating a draft pick.

This trade may help LA in the short-term but I think Philadelphia benefited more from this deal.

Peter Tessier

Philly won and it's not even close. They are not in contention and their needs were totally different- shed cap hits and create openings for the youth. LA is trying to win now, Philly could still win the draft lottery and not have to worry about Lecavailer! While Schenn and Vinny may help the Kings it won't matter to Philly. This is what a modern day cap era hockey trade looks like now and Philly got more from it than LA.
