In this edition of the hotstove we share our thoughts on Alex Goligoski's five-year, ~27.5 million contract with the Arizona Coyotes.

Given Goligoski will be 31 prior to playing a game with the Coyotes I would have been more comfortable with a three or four-year deal. In saying that I still like this signing.
Over the last two years Goligoski has tallied 50 points at 5 v 5. That ties him with Mark Giordano for 10th among blue liners and puts him ahead of Victor Hedman, Kris Letang, Shea Weber and Drew Doughty, among many others.
On top of producing offense Goligoski is also a good possession driver and will help the Coyotes in that regard as well.
The Coyotes really needed to get Oliver Ekman-Larsson some help and they did that here.
James Tanner Goligoski is a great signing for the Coyotes. He was, I think, the second best defenseman on the market after Yandle and the price is alright.
The term is a bit long, but probably that's the cost of not letting him hit the open market. Considering the Coyotes have one of the thinnest bluelines in the NHL, this move has to be seen as a massive upgrade.
