In this edition we discuss whether or not James Reimer is for real or if he's just an OK goaltender riding a hot streak.
Todd Cordell He's not nearly as good as he is playing right now but I do think Reimer is a good goaltender and is a capable 1A.
Since 2012-13 Reimer owns a .925 save percentage at 5 vs 5. That's good for 19th among 43 goaltenders who played at least 3,000 minutes in that span.
Some names Reimer ranks ahead of: Antti Niemi, Semyon Varlamov, Jonathan Quick and Ryan Miller, among many others.
Again, I don't think we're seeing the real Reimer right now but at the same time I think he is better than most give him credit for.
James Tanner James Reimer is very much for real. He is behind only Lundqvist in most goalie stats and is the leader for high-danger save percentage.
Now, he probably isn't going to continue being the best (or close to it anyways) goalie in hockey, but he is a very good player and long ago was deserving of the Leafs starting job. (Although I don't think you can be too hard on them for acquiring a goalie with Bernier's pedigree for virtually nothing).
Reimer is an above average NHL goalie currently playing like a superstar. He might keep it up though because if history tells us anything it's that if you can make it to the NHL as a goalie, there is a chance you can go on a crazy run and put together an insane season.
