Hotstove: Best Fit For Mike Santorelli? (Rangers)

Welcome to another edition of the Hockeybuzz hotstove.

Todd Cordell: New York Rangers

I think Santorelli would be a nice add for a lot of teams, but the Rangers stand out to me as one that really make sense.

The Rangers like to use their team speed to stretch defenses, and as a whole the team plays very fast. Santorelli would add another element of speed to the team, and he's capable of playing in all situations, as well as up in the lineup if necessary.

New York has been one of the best teams in hockey over the last couple months, and adding a guy like Santorelli would add more production down in the lineup, which is key come playoff time.

Tim Chiasson: New York Rangers The Rangers have a legitimate chance to run the table in the Eastern Conference again and adding a solid depth guy like Mike Santorelli would only increase their chances.

Santorelli is capable of playing in his own end as well as providing some offense. He can moonlight in the top six if there are injury problems.

If the Rangers are looking for a cheap boost to their lineup to make another run at the Cup they should be looking at Mike Santorelli.

James Tanner For Mike Santorelli? I have no idea, honestly. I guess he's an OK player, so anyone looking to make a depth add for a run in the playoffs would be a good fit.

I hear he is an extremely dedicated player and super-hard worker of the Gary Roberts persuasion, so maybe that might factor in too.

The thing about Santorelli is that he is pretty good, but he's playing higher in the lineup in Toronto than any team that acquires him is likely to play him and so I think he may end up being overrated currently. Not to say he hasn't been good, but what team that gets him will give him a player of Kadri's talent to play with?
