The New York Islanders announced earlier in the week that they will be holding a public memorial to mark the one year passing of legendary coach Al Arbour. The event will occur on Monday August 29th at the Islanders’ practice facility, the Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow New York.
The event is free to the public but you must reserve seats by August 15th. Many Islander alumni and NHL guests will be on hand. Former Islander General Manager Bill Torrey, and Hall of Famers Scotty Bowman and Jim Devellano have been announced as guests. Current Islander Head Coach Jack Capuano and team Captain John Tavares will represent the club and Hall of Fame Broadcaster Jiggs McDonald will be hosting the event.
This is a great chance for the Islander fanbase to pay tribute to one of the great coaches of the game. I fully expect that this event will sell out quickly.
With their being no team news of any substance we can take a look at Isles prospect Kiefer Bellows. Bellows’ is currently playing for the Team USA at their Junior Evaluation Camp. Kiefer is having a strong camp to this point logging heavy minutes on the top line. He recorded an assist in todays win against Sweden but this past week in the teams 8-2 thumping of Finland, Bellows scored twice and added three assists. Bellows will certainly be an exciting prospect to watch this season as he is set to attend Boston University in the fall.
