The Washington Capitals have officially clinched the Metro Division and the Eastern Conference tonight, defeating the Ottawa Senators 4-2.
The Caps got goals from Mike Richards, Alex Ovechkin (PP), Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie (EN).
Braden Holtby was solid with 28 saves for his 44th win of the season.
The Caps were held to 22 shots on goal, but they went 1-2 on the power play and 4-4 on the PK.
With 109 points now, the Capitals (52-15-5) have 10 games in the season.
Washington scored three first period goals, but were held scoreless until the final minute of the third.
Ovechkin scored his league leading 43rd goal of the season and has a 5 goal lead over Patrick Kane (38). It was Ovechkin's 518th goal of his career, which ties him with Dale Hawerchuk for 35th all-time. He needs 5 more to more past Pat Verbeek (522).
Nicklas Backstrom quietly lead the way with a goal and an assist.
