Wings vs. Carolina - “You can’t let in 4 goals and expect to win… (Red Wings)

It was reassuring in an odd way to hear Maata say what he did about letting in 4 goals. We’ve talked about that and there’s been some criticism leveled at expecting more out of the team defensively. To have that be front and center from one of the D address it with similar expectations. Yes it’s a rebuild, but that’s trend is one that can and needs to be addressed with the current roster.

That said, LaLonde said that Husso is in net. Even acknowledging that Husso’s numbers are at the bottom of the league. That was joined with “he had a great third period…. One of the press outlets actually asked “why… on Husso and that is what they were given.

Still no word on where Compher is and when he’ll be back. The coach did say that J.T. Was the best 200 ft player on the team and that meshes with what we’ve talked about as well.

Carolina has numbers that are eerily similar to Detroit. Carolina power play is at 22%, Detroit 23%. PK for the ‘canes is 80% and Detroit is at 77%. Goals for favors the Redwings at 3.79 vs. 3.25, but goals against are at 3.25 for Carolina vs. 3.29 for Detroit. Those numbers are interesting to see.

The biggest concern is momentum and situation. While the season as a whole has Detroit and Carolina looking very similar, Detroit is still without its 2 top centers along with Perron and on this trend of letting in 4 or more. The reason for staying with Husso continues to baffle a bit but that’s where the club is at. It’s his net regardless of what the numbers look like.

Apparently seeing Larkin on ice was a mental boost for the team, we’ll see how everything translates when they hit the ice.
