Game Summary:

First, I’ll give credit where it is due. Gibson made some outstanding saves. He faced 41 shots and 3 of Detroit’s goals came with the man advantage. However, Husso faced 32 shots and only 1 got by him. That’s fairly impressive.

It was a strange feeling to hear the ESPN commentators say that this is a game Detroit should expect to win. Anaheim is having a rough run and Gibson could add a lot to a competitor at the deadline.

The PK is still perfect, 5 games in. That’s unreal. No regulation losses 5 games in. Also, not something we’re not used to. Copp finding his game would do a lot for this team especially in this division. Veleno is flying out there and seems to have found his game. It’s bottom 6 for now, but that’s not getting to him mentally. Zadina is really struggling. I don’t know what you do to get him going.

The physicality of this team is fantastic. Defensemen making forwards fight for every inch and some strong play in the corners. I can hear the, “let’s not get too excited, the Ducks are a team in transition.… That’s absolutely true. But, the PK is fantastic.

At one point Larkin was 63% on faceoffs. The draws and the power play were both painful to watch in the past but tonight was a good night. Let’s hope the team moves forward and tighten things up even more as much tougher matchups are on the horizon.

First Period Detroit goals:

Larkin struck early on the power play (his 150th career goal). Seider slid the puck to Kubalik who went for a quick one timer. The rebound went right to Larkin who knocked it home. Nice start, and spent the majority of the power play in the O zone. Goal at 2:02

The power play struck again at 16:28 courtesy of Perron with that strong off wing one timer that had to have been on Yzerman’s mind when he was brought in. Hronek and Kubalik with the apples.

Second Period Detroit goals: Veleno from Erne as the two had an outnumbered rush courtesy of a pass from Suter. First for JV who has been playing strong. Well executed

Third Period Detroit goals:

ANOTHER power play goal at 3:44 as Kubalik took a cross seam pass from Sundqvist (after a nice faceoff win by Larkin). Kubalike just slid right into the puck and mailed it home.

Soderblom cashed in on a 2 on 1 with Rasmussen after the initial shot bounced off of Gibson on right in front of his stick. The “Redwood line… has a shocking amount of skating ability. It was mentioned earlier that Soderblom is the largest (in height and weight) player that Detroit has ever had. Nearly 7 ft on skates, you have to imagine the defense is on their toes.
