Summary - well, the road trip is off to a rough start. To the positive, Debrincat’s power play tally was absolutely beautiful and Patrick Kane connected with his former line mate in beautiful style. This was a tough loss, but what a performance by McDavid. When the sting wears off, tip your hat.
Both Toronto and Tampa won their games as did New Jersey and the Isles grabbed an OT point. In one night things went almost as poorly as they could standings wise. By our best estimations from the comments, it looks like Detroit had better recover quickly and grab 5 of the next 6 points. Vancouver isn’t going to make that step forward easy.
Lyon had a rough night after Husso’s return to action turned into another trip to the IR. There was frustration in the comments regarding Husso’s selection and LaLonde (mercifully) has had the option removed. You don’t want anyone to get hurt, but at times the coach makes poor decisions and the only hinderance is to remove the option. Regardless, Lyon now has to shake this off.
Vancouver may well set the table for the next few weeks and how the team approaches each game. The urgency has to be there and the execution has to match. Regardless, this is one where they have to take the available lessons and turn it into application. Luckily the opportunity is coming quickly.
The game was actually tied at 3’s before Detroit was buried. The remainder of this trip will be an interesting indicator on how far the team has come and what remains to be added. Let me know your thoughts.
