We knew it was only a matter of time before the Wild inked Jordan Greenway to his entry level contract. That day has come, as Greenway's Boston University squad was eliminated from the NCAA tournament yesterday at the hands of Michigan.
Greenway is expected to make his debut this week and could he a a key piece for the Wild as they look to secure their sixth straight playoff berth.
The Wild are coming off two of their better performances of the season over the weekend with their win over Nashville Saturday and last night's overtime loss to Boston.
Yes, the Wild probably deserved a better fate last night but they showed some very good heart coming back and tying the game in the 3rd period.
Both games saw the Wild fall behind, which has been an issue for them this season but against two of the league's best, they were up to the task and played hard throughout.
It is playoff time and the cream rises to the top. One thing that has been true about this year's Wild team and that is they are pretty resilient. Keeping the losing streaks to a minimum. That is the one thing that Wild fans can certainly hang their hat on as the playoffs approach.
Still no assurance that the Wild get in, but three points over the weekend did not hurt their cause by any means.
Will be interesting to see how Greenway fits in with the Wild but having him work the front of the net on the PP would seem like an immediate improvement.
The fourth line is working great and Marcus Foligno appears to be turning into the player Chuck Fletcher had thought he was getting when he made the deal with Buffalo last Summer. If he continues to raise his level as the stakes get higher he could be a difference maker on that line with Daniel Winnik and the blossoming Joel Eriksson Ek.
Nashville tomorrow in Music City, should be a great opportunity for this Wild team to make a statement that they can play with the best.
