Who Needs Defensive Help?
Every year, around this time I run the numbers of each team by position to try and give us some hints as to who I should maybe be calling...This year, when I did this, I was kind of shocked...by the reality of who is getting points out of their D and who isn't...
At the bottom of the list are LA and Vegas...That makes some sense, especially given the fact that Nate Schmidt has been out...and Drew Doughty is really coming up small after signing his major deal.
Then come the Blues...The Blues are always known as a team with incredible defensive depth...But Colton Parayko has really struggled this year and Jay Bouwmeester has spent some time as a healthy scratch.
Then we have the NY Islanders. Who have been very good DESPITE this notable lack of point production from their back end.
As we head up the list, Boston, at 6th worst is a real surprise...especially when you consider all the goals this team is getting...
As a positive on the other end of things...Ottawa, the team who LOST Erik Karlsson, is leading the NHL with points from their D-men...Toronto, a team that we all feel needs to make a move for a D-man, is impressive at 5th best...
This list gets more and more interesting as you dig deeper...
