Vegas pulled one out of the hat in Buffalo, as they tied the game with four minutes left and won it in the shootout.
Deryk Engelland's late, tying goal was fortunate, but it was also more than that.
William Karlsson comes in hard on the forecheck, beating Marco Scandella to the puck. Then David Perron fights off Ryan O'Reilly and threads the backdoor seam through a collapsing Buffalo defense to Deryk Engelland.
Of course, Robin Lehner helped with his best imitation of a Tyrannosaurus Rex pokechecking.
It was a reminder that players who aren't having their best games -- Karlsson and Perron have had better -- just need one shift to turn the game around.
Pluses
Marc-Andre Fleury wasn't heavily tested, but he helped keep the game close with 31 saves on 32 shots. This performance, along with his shutout against Detroit, belie claims that Flower is fatigued. This was his 21st start in 23 games.
Minuses
Shea Theodore deserves the lionshare of the blame here -- that's a bad pass.
But Cody Eakin -- who was at the end of his shift -- did not mark Justin Bailey well. They started in the same area of the ice, but when the turnover occurs, Eakin's attention appears to be on the puck and not the hard-charging Bailey. By the time Eakin seems to notice the speed up the gut, it's too late.
