Last night we hit the Bruins over and ML in the 1st period but got a push on the game total. The Stars went over for us but the Leafs/Yotes game had a hot goaltender putting that one under the total. But we had another profitable night! We have a nice 11 game card tonight and I really like a lot of totals, 1st period side/totals too. Analysis below.
PHI/BOS - The Flyers have been off since Saturday but are slowly getting healthy having lost 5 in a row but they were rested in Boston while the Bruins played MTL. Boston expects Tuuka Rask to make his season debut tonight too, so that will give them an adrenalin lift tonight, The Bruins have won 6 of 7 games since the break and are red hot but this will be their 4th in 6 nights while Philly hasn't played in that timeframe. I like the Boston ML in the 1st period and the 1st period over.
VAN/TB - The Canucks have played once since Jan. 1st and it showed the other in Florida but they got the rust knocked off and will be ready for TB who will be playing their 6th game during the same span. Vancouver +215 is very tempting here! TB -252 is a crazy price as people shouldn't forget that Vancouver was one of the hottest teams before the break.
CLB/CAR - The Jackets are terrible on the road while Carolina is very good at home. CLB got off to a good start to the season but has fallen apart this month and is 2-4 since the break. The Canes are 3-1 since the break and have been off since Saturday night, lean to Carolina but it's a high price -226.
NJ/NYI - The Devils are 4-2 since the break and they too have been off since Saturday night. NYI has been off since Jan. 1st and NJ has played 4 times in that span, so the Isles are a rested group, lean to NYI and the over 5.5.
WIN/DET - The Jets have been off a week and starting to slowly get healthy while the Wings have won lost 5 of 6 since the break and 3 straight on the west coast. This will be the first of a 5 game roadie for Winnipeg, lean to the Jets -136 in this spot.
SEA/STL -The Blues were rested last night while Seattle played in Dallas. STL has the Leafs and Wild on deck, so I hope they don't get caught looking ahead. The Blues are also off big wins over Dallas and Washington at home. Lean to the Blues on the PL but I really like the over 6 in this spot. Seattle has lost 7 in a row and headed home for 7 straight at home after this one.
BUFF/NASH - Nashville is red hot and off a huge OT over the Avs. The Preds will probably start the back up goalie tonight too in this bad letdown spot as they go to Boston and STL. Buffalo has lost 6 straight games and is really banged up. Lean to the over 6 here as well.
MTL/CHI - The Hawks were rested last night while MTL got blasted in Boston 5-1. They also lost Jake Allen to injury in goal as they started a 7 game roadie. Chicago won 2 of 3 on their roadie and I would lean to the over 5.5 here, not worth the price for the Hawks -200.
PITT/LA - Pitt is playing their 4th in 7 nights on the road but is one of the hottest teams in the league and now has Malkin back in their lineup! LA is 4-2 on this homestand and have been off since Monday. The Kings are only +125 so that tells you the public is all over the Pens -145. Over 5.5 looks great here too!
OTT/CAL - The Flames went 2-3 on their road trip but have Florida on deck in a rematch after getting skunked last week in Florida. Ottawa hasn't played Jan. 1st and only twice now since Dec. 18th, so 2 games in 25 days. I lean to the 1st period over and Calgary ML in the 1st period. Flames -252 is risky juice, as Ottawa should be fresh with this young team. NYR/SJ - The Rangers are playing their 4th in 7 nights on the road and SJ has won 5 of 7 since the break. But the Sharks got NYR/Pitt and LA at home 3 in 5 nights, a tough stretch. Back with a play later.

Our Survivor Hockey pool is all based on the weekend (Sat-Sun) schedule, so you could potentially pick a team against different opponents if they play both days.
How to Play
Entrants pick two teams each weekend of the NHL regular season with the intention of the selection winning. A shootout or OT win, count as your team winning. If the team's selected wins, the entry survives to the following week. If one of the teams selected loses, the entry is eliminated from the pool. If you fail to post your picks before the weekly deadline, your team is eliminated. If all remaining teams lose during a week, they all move on to the next week. The final surviving entry is the winner unless there are multiple teams alive after the final week of the season. Teams may only be selected one time for the duration of the pool. You can't pick a team a second time after you have used that desired team's selection once. If you pick a team in which the game is postponed due to covid, the selection will be canceled, you won't be graded a win or a loss and you will have to pick an additional play the following weekend. We will post a new blog every Friday in which you will post your 2 weekly picks. The picks can't be edited as the system shuts them down and we will take pics of each weekly entry so nobody is trying to cheat. This way everyone can see your picks each week. The deadline for your weekly entry will be at Noon EST every Saturday. The first week's deadline is Saturday, Jan. 15th at Noon EST.
Cost - $100 per entry is payable by Paypal or if you live in Canada, E-transfer is accepted, which is also the quickest way to gain entry. If you choose Paypal allow a few days for the payment to go through so please keep this in mind when registering that we need to receive it before the deadline for week 1 picks need to be posted. The maximum number of entries by any e-mail address or user at hockeybuzz is 3! Once we have your money you will be notified and activated into the contest. Please IM here at hockeybuzz and I will give you the email address for Paypal or the E-transfer. We will release how many entries we have after the deadline so each entrant is aware of the payout at the end of the contest.
