Preseason Game 1 Preview and Team Red Vs. Team White Wrap Up
The Canadiens had their only friendly match of the preseason yesterday. Charles Hudon put up 3 assists for Team White as they defeated Team Red in overtime thanks to a Mark Streit wraparound that beat Charlie Lindgren during the 3 on 3 period.

Aside from Streit’s OT winner for Team White, the other 2 White goals were scored by Tomas Plekanec and we can only hope that is a sign of things to come this season. Plekanec was a pretty big disappointment last year, offensively. Goal scorers for Team Red were Karl Alzner and Daniel Audette. Carey Price allowed no goals for Team Red before being replaced by Lindgren about half way through the game.
The Canadiens put on a shoot out show for the fans after the OT winner but only Gallagher beat Fucale during the spectacle that included all of Montreal’s big shooters up front.

The game was just a glorified scrimmage to the veterans on the club, but its much more for the young players and Hudon was proof. He was hungry and effective in doing his best to take that NHL spot this October. Now, he has to continue to show that drive through the next couple weeks of preseason action.

The Canadiens return to action tonight as they take on long time rivals, the Boston Bruins at Centre Videotron in Quebec City, QB. Coach Claude Julien had already mentioned he was going to start a team that was heavy on locals. It is a nice gesture for the people from the area and I would expect a very thin veteran presence tonight. It will be the kids getting a chance to show what this rivalry means to them.
As I am writing this, the Canadiens released tonights roster.

The only true regulars are Byron, Gallagher, Danault, Galchenyuk, Alzner, Petry, Shaw, and Mitchell. Julien made good on his word and put in virtually all of the Canadiens French contingent of players, aside from Jonathan Drouin.

The Boston Bruins squad will ice virtually no regulars tonight against the Canadiens. Their roster is set to look like this. Forwards: Noel Acciari, Kenny Agostino, Matt Beleskey, Anders Bjork, Colby Cave, Jesse Gabrielle, Justin Hickman, Riley Nash, Chris Porter, Tim Schaller, Zach Senyshyn, Ryan Spooner, Jack Studnicka. Defensemen: Chris Breen, Connor Clifton, Tommy Cross, Matt Grzelcyk, Jeremy Lauzon, Kevan Miller, Paul Postma. Goaltenders: Zane McIntyre, Malcolm Subban.
I half expect some of the more bitter Montreal media to make a story about a Subban returning to Montreal, but maybe I'm just tired of hearing about former Canadiens more than current ones.
I’m looking forward to seeing what progress Jacob De La Rose and Michael McCarron have made. These two players should really bring it tonight against such a thin B’s line up to prove they can more than handle this situation. Players like Audette, Gelinas, Morrow, Taormina, and Gregoire need to show up all preseason to make a case for a spot or call up. The gap to the NHL is getting wider every year for them and its either time to bridge that gap or accept relegation to the AHL as their career goal.
It will be very interesting to see how Noah Juulsen handles this game. The kid is large and can play a hard game. No better opponent to make an impression against than the ones that wear the spoked B, doesn't matter who they dress. It’s good to see Antoine Waked get into this game as well. He’s a player who could develop into one of those sneaky effective bottom six guys rather than a plug-like bottom six NHL’er.

Enjoy the game tonight and remember, the Avalanche were one of the best preseason teams last year. What I'm saying is, let’s not overreact for these next eight games as they are primarily for the kids and AHL’ers to try to make a case for their NHL futures. The guys on the one way deals will just be playing a game of pick up with the occasional face wash.
You should be able to watch tonights game on RDS.ca and possibly the official Montreal Canadiens website, but I can confirm that yet.
