Preparing For Our First Expansion Draft Primer (kraken)

Follow me on Twitter for more hockey news and thoughts.

As I mentioned in my first blog, I want to include you, the readers in these Kraken blogs as I feel it'll help to entice more of you to join the TentaClan.

Over the course of this year we will obviously be discussing the Expansion Draft for the Seattle Kraken heavily.

Starting October 12th, I will begin the process of selecting one player from each applicable team (sorry Vegas as much as I want to take some of your players the league says I can't do it). October 9th marks the beginning of free agency with most of the key players usually gone within the first couple of days. Starting the Monday after the beginning of Free Agency allows us to potentially include those players to protect or expose.

Here is where you guys come in... I want you guys to decide each team's protection lists. Similar to the great work that Jan Levine has done with the Mock Draft, I want to get a reader, commenter, or blogger from each team to write out their Expansion Draft.

I, as the Armchair GM of the Seattle Kraken will then look at who remains exposed and write a response, including potential options to draft and my final selection.

Here are the rules for this first shot at an Expansion Draft.

1.) No Trades - We will do at least one more of these before the actual draft happens and in that one I will likely allow trades to prevent Vegas from selecting certain players but for now I want to purely focus on which players each team views as the ones they want to protect.

2.) Provide Some Reasoning - I don't need a long winded blog post for you to explain yourself (that's my job) but please write at least a paragraph or two about why you kept who you kept, or why you chose to expose certain players.

3.) Do Your Research - If you are a Calgary fan writing their list you need to add Milan Lucic because he has a NMC (I like to remind Calgary fans of that every now and then) CapFriendly has a great tool in their "Interactive" tab for exactly this. Ensure you are protecting who needs to be or be aware of who does not need protection.

Please message me directly here or on Twitter if you want to take part; be sure to tell me which team you want to make a list for.

In the coming days I will start to compile a list for which teams are accounted for.

Happy Protecting!
