Plenty of shots, need more goals (Avalanche)

The Avalanche meet the Los Angeles Kings on Friday at Ball Arena in the fifth game of their nine-game homestand. They've gone 2-1-1 in the first four games.

They’ll use the same lineup they did Wednesday when they outshot the Arizona Coyotes 46-14 in a 2-1 overtime win on Gabriel Landeskog’s winning goal.

The Avalanche outshot the Coyotes 81-28, yet had to settle for a two-game split of the series. Nathan MacKinnon had 10 shots on goal after missing three games with a head injury. The Landeskog-MacKinnon-Mikko Rantanen line combined for 19 shots Wednesday.

Here are the GAME NOTES.

"We outshot them again and out-chanced them, we had a lot of chances,… Rantanen said. “One thing we have to be better at is just scoring at a higher percentage. We create so many chances, but we just can't find the back of the net that often. We just have to work on that and maybe work on some video and try and learn how we can score more goals and be more dangerous.…

Defenseman Bowen Byram and forward J.T. Compher, both out with upper body injuries, wore non-contact jerseys at the morning skate. Defenseman Dennis Gilbert (facial surgery) wore a full face mask.

Defenseman Cale Makar (upper body) skated on his own.
