Pilut Ready For Takeoff (Lawrence Pilut Buffalo sabres)

**

The Buffalo Sabres have recalled defenseman Lawrence Pilut from the Rochester Americans.

Pilut, the “other… Swedish rookie defensemen phenom, joins the Sabres for his second recall of the season. Pilut has not appeared in a game with the Sabres. Perhaps that will come later this week.

Zach Bogosian sat out Monday’s practice as a practice day. Bogosian was limited in his participation at the morning skate on Tuesday. Looks to my eyes like Pilut is an insurance policy in the event that Bogosian cannot suit up against Evander Kane and the Sharks.

The Sabres look to extend their current winning streak to ten games tonight when they play host to the San Jose Sharks. This is the 41st game all-time between Buffalo and San Jose. Buffalo has a 24-10-6 series record. The Sabres are 17-2-1 at home against the Sharks all-time.

The Sabres will play in Florida later this week when they visit the Lightning on Thursday night and the Panthers on Friday night.

Pilut is currently tied for third among all AHL skaters with 22 points (3G,19A) in his first 16 career AHL games and leads the AHL with a +19 rating.

The Sabres enter the Sharks game on their first nine-game winning streak since the team won its first 10 games of the 2006-07 season. A win tonight would match the franchise record, set in January 1984 and tied during that October 2006 stretch.

In addition to the two official 10-game winning streaks, the Sabres have twice won at least 10 consecutive regular-season games during streaks that spanned two seasons: 15 games (April 8 to October 26, 2006) and 11 games (April 1 to Oct. 26, 1975).

With a win or OT loss tonight, the Sabres would have points in 10 straight games for the first time since they recorded points in 11 straight from December 26 to January 18, 2010 (8-0-3).

Buffalo enters tonight’s game with an 8-2-1 (.773) record at home this season, putting the team on pace for its best home record since the 1979-80 season (27-5-8, .775). Their record ties as the second-best home record in the NHL behind only Boston (8-2-0) entering play Monday.

The Sabres have won each of their last five home games. It’s their first five-game home winning streak since they won seven in a row from Nov. 28 to December 15, 2014.

The team has gone 6-0-1 in its last seven home games. A point tonight would give the Sabres points in eight consecutive home games for the first time since December 10, 2013 to January 9, 2014 (6-0-2).

The Sabres are 11-0-2 when scoring first so far this season. Entering play Monday, they were one of four teams who have earned at least a point in every game in which they’ve opened the scoring in 2018-19.

Buffalo is 10-0-2 when leading after the first period. Entering play Monday, they were one of five teams who have earned at least a point in every game in which they’ve led after 20 minutes in 2018-19.
