The Penguins will likely start the season without one of their star players, at least it is looking that way
Mike Sullivan on Erik Karlsson, who has yet to skate with the team during camp due to an upper-body injury:

“He’s scheduled to be off the ice this weekend and then we’ll go from there. That’s just part of the rehab process and where he’s at right now.…
Erik Karlsson won’t be skating this weekend. This after he skated a handful of times recently.

Getting a bit concerning now, I’d say.
So he has skated and they are dialing him back. Things are headed in the wrong direction. I honestly didn’t have a Karlsson injury on my bingo card heading into the season. He played at the World Championships in the spring and played well. It wasn’t until camp rolled around and he wasn’t partaking in practice when they made the injury public. There aren’t many details to be had other than it is an upper body injury. The team stated it was a day-to-day thing which I brushed off as something was nagging him and we’d see him in practice by now. That hasn’t been the case and now one of the necessary pieces for the Penguins to actually be competitive isn’t likely to be available to start the season, not ideal.
I hope Jack St. Ivany is ready to go because his minutes are about to go up.
Now we wait.
