The Los Angeles Kings are halfway through an important four-game homestand, following a 6-1 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday and a 4-3 shootout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.
In the win over the Predators, Quinton Byfield played a key role for the Kings, leading the way with two goals and three points. It was a great game for Los Angeles, getting off to a hot start and limiting chances for the Predators.
Despite the loss to Chicago, the Kings still put together a strong performance, throwing 46 shots at Collin Delia. They really controlled the first 40 minutes specifically and while it’s disappointing they came away with a single point, it was another good effort, especially considering the injuries.
Slowly but surely, the Kings are getting players back. Alex Edler returned to the lineup last week, while Viktor Arvidsson was back in action against the Blackhawks on Thursday.
Even through the stretch without Arvidsson though, both Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore continued to produce. It’s been a pretty huge last couple months overall for the forwards and over 20 games since the start of February, Danault has 11 goals and 16 points, while Moore has six goals and 18 points.
Los Angeles will close the homestand with two games against the Seattle Kraken, the first of which takes place tonight, followed by a matchup on Monday. They’re games the Kings need to win, facing a team at the bottom of the standings who sold off several key pieces at the trade deadline.
As of now, the Kings sit second in the Pacific Division and sixth in the Western Conference in points percentage. With only 16 games to go, going 2-for-2 and picking up four points against the Kraken is a must and goes a long way to locking them into a playoff spot.
Following the homestand, the Kings will also play nine of their last 14 games on the road. It’s a crucial two games against Seattle and taking seven of a possible eight points through the four-game homestand would be huge for Los Angeles.
