Former hockey player, Olympic champion and multiple Russian junior team coach Vitali Prohorkov has been announced as the new Vice President of the Kontinental Hockey League.
''His tasks will mainly be handling the MHL (Russian junior league) as well as young player development. He will have to assure that there is development for Russian players so they can advance from the MHL to VHL and in the end, reach KHL as well as strengthening the World Cup for junior teams,'' says KHL official release.
It's also noted that he will have to be responsible for assuring that number of young hockey players leaving Russia is reduced to a minimum and creating a better development at home in Russia.
Prohorkov has played in the national hockey leagues playing for different teams playing a total of 81 games and scoring 19 goals recording 11 assists. In years prior to this hiring, he led Russian u-17, u-18, and u-19 national teams.
He has triumphed at the 1992 Winter Olympics, played at the World Hockey Championships twice landing 5th place in both occasions.
