Is The Rivalry Dead? Plus Other Notes (blackhawks)

The Hawks aren’t back on the ice until this Friday, when the Detroit Red Wings come to town. The last few times these teams have played each other it has gotten me thinking. When the Hawks and Wings played it used to be must watch TV or must listen to radio (old school fans know what I’m talking about). The oldest rivalry in all of hockey and you could even argue it was one of the best rivalries in all of sports. I remember just absolutely hating Detroit and anyone who dared tell me the Wings were better than the Hawks. I remember being devastated when Chelios was traded there because he had to play for those guys.

Nowadays, I don’t think this holds true. After the league realignment saw Detroit move to the Eastern Conference and making it so these two teams only play each other twice a year, I just feel like there just isn’t that same appeal. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely can not stand Detroit, and if I end up at the UC when they are in town, I am all in on the Detroit Sucks chants. I just do not see them as the big bad rival they once were; to me at least at this moment in time, they are just another team.

Now this just might be me, but I would love to hear how you guys feel about Detroit and if you feel the same as me, who do you consider the new rival. For me, I think the easy answer is St. Louis, nothing is better than watching that team lose especially when it's at the hands of a Bennington meltdown. Anyways, let me know what you think.

On the Farm Rockford starts their season 1-1; they had an epic comeback Saturday, winning 5-4 in overtime. Luke Philp, Dave Gust, and Lukas Reichel each finished that game with 3 points. They then lost Sunday 4-0. They hit the ice again Saturday against the Wolves.

2023 Draft Watch While it is still really early in all leagues of hockey, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to take a look at two of the top prospects for this upcoming draft.

Connor Bedard is putting up some video game numbers so far in his season. In 11 games he has put up 9 goals and 11 assists. He’s also taken 140 shot attempts with 73 shots on goal. He has definitely learned from Shane Wright and is not taking his foot off the gas this season.

Adam Fantilli, who is projected to be a top 5 pick, is also off to a great start his freshman year at Michigan. In 4 games he’s put up 1 goal and 7 assists for a 2 pts/gm average, which is excellent in college, especially for a freshmen. Hopefully Nazar can get back out there sooner than later so we can see what time of chemistry they have together and a nice look into the future potentially?
