The Buffalo Sabres were back at work Thursday morning after losing back to back games on Tuesday night to Columbus (in Clinton, NY) and Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.
Phil Housley has to run his practice with six prominent players out of the lineup with minor conditions. Sounds like “maintenance… days off to me.
The players are Jack Eichel, Rasmus Ristolainen, Marco Scandella, Zach Bogosian, Conor Sheary, and Johan Larsson.
Coach Housley says those not on the ice today (4, 6, 9, 22, 43, 55) will not travel to Oshawa. Minor ailments, precautionary, just day-to-day. pic.twitter.com/YJGD2itfN3

Eichel played Tuesday night against Columbus and did not play in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. A common practice at this time of year. It’s not clear what is bothering Eichel.
Bogosian played the first two periods on Tuesday night, however, was held out for the majority of the third period. Housley said Bogosian’s injury is not related to his offseason hip surgery.
Ristolainen and Scandella did not play in against Columbus or Pittsburgh. Their ailments are not known.
Larsson blocked a shot with his foot in the third period in Pittsburgh. He could not finish the game.
Sheary suffered an upper body injury on the first day of training camp on September 14.
All injured players are considered day-to-day.
Prior to Wednesday’s practice, Sabres GM Jason Botterill reduces his training camp roster by sending five players to the Rochester Amerks.

The Sabres will play their seventh and final preseason game on Friday night against the N.Y. Islanders in Oshawa. Former Sabres goalie Robin Lehner signed with NYI as a free agent in July. Lehner will play a portion of the game for the Islanders on Friday night.
The Sabres will play their season opener at home against the Boston Bruins on October 4.

All things old are new again.
Having grown up watching and covering the Adams Division, I love the Hartford Whalers.
The Carolina Hurricanes have a new owner called Tom Dundon who also loves the Whalers colors and culture.
It’s important to honor our franchise’s past and have some fun in the present. Looking forward to 12/23. https://t.co/ZFhEP1DJ2f

The Canes will be wearing the retro threads on a couple in 2018-19 season. The Canes will rock the free against Boston in December 23 and March 5.

Hurricanes Media Release:
The Carolina Hurricanes will honor their heritage in hosting Whalers Night on Sunday, Dec. 23 when the Boston Bruins, an old Hartford rival, visit PNC Arena.
"We're proud of the history and traditions that we've built in 21 years in North Carolina. But we've never thrown away the records established during this franchise's 18 NHL seasons in Connecticut," said Hurricanes President and General Manager Don Waddell. "This is a chance to celebrate our team's heritage and the players and coaches who laid the groundwork for this franchise."
Whalers Night will encompass a number of throwback elements, the highlight of which will be the vintage sweaters, sculpted after the threads worn by the Whalers from 1985-89 and 1990-91. The green sweaters feature white and blue striping along the waist, with angled white and blue striping on the arms. The centerpiece is, of course, the iconic Whalers logo.
