Not done yet. But expecting a 1-year deal. There was lots of interest and the opportunity to play for Rod Brind'Amour was appealing.@DFOHockey
After playing just six games with the Rangers last season, however, DeAngelo was placed on waivers, following a post-game altercation with goaltender Alexander Georgiev. As a result, he was bought out by the Rangers this offseason, which allowed him to become an unrestricted free agent.
QUICK THOUGHTS: Even aside from the major off-ice concerns – which should be enough to convince teams to stay away from signing the defenseman – DeAngelo isn’t likely to be an effective on-ice replacement for Dougie Hamilton, if that’s the goal here. He can produce offensively but is also prone to defensive mistakes and would have to be used in a sheltered role, whereas Hamilton was capable of holding his own against tough matchups.
As far as I’m concerned, this move would be another blunder in what’s been a very puzzling and disappointing offseason for the Carolina Hurricanes.
