Game 24: NYR-BOS, Rangers with step up in class today, Staal update (rangers)

The Rangers look for their fourth straight win today against the Bruins. Boston leads the Atlantic Division by 10 points, spurred by their fantastic top line, but supported by production up and down the lineup. The pairing of Tuukka Rask and Jaroslav Halav between the pipes continues to excel as well. New York has a quick turnaround after the game, facing the Devils at the Rock tomorrow.

With Greg McKegg sidelined again, the lineup will be the same as Wednesday:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich Panarin-Chytil-Strome Lemieux-Howden-Kakko Smith-Nieves-Fast

Skjei-Trouba Fox-Lindgren Hajek-DeAngelo

Lundqvist (Georgiev goes tomorrow) Staal, sidelined for three weeks since undergoing surgery on November 8 to cure an infection in his ankle, which festered from a cut he sustained on a blocked shot earlier in the season, skated for the third time Thursday but the first time he practiced with the team. Coach David Quinn is hoping to give Staal a full week of skating and practice before getting him back into a game. But Staal believes he will be ready earlier. The question is who, if anyone, sits when Staal is ready to go?

Based on recent performance, Libor Hajek might be the odd-man out for a game or two. Brady Skjei has been much better since paired again with Jacob Trouba. Adam Fox and Ryan Lindgren, despite a subpar game Wednesday, as a duo, have been very good overall, so you would presume they stick together. Hajek has been up-and-down, mostly solid, but if Quinn is going to make a change, Hajek appears the likely out with others possibly getting a game off periodically.

I ended up in a twitter conversation on this yesterday, continuing the conversation we have had in the past. (https://twitter.com/airjan23/status/1200265843822747649). Open to your thoughts on if Staal does get back in,  who sits for him and what would you do with him in general.

Fun column in the NY Post on Brendan Lemieux, comparing him to his dad, Claude. (https://nypost.com/2019/11/28/brendan-lemieux-follows-dads-footsteps-despite-claudes-early-resistance/). If Brendan ends up half the player his dad, we all would be ecstatic.
