A few big upsets last night with the Devils beating the Pens, Preds knocking off the Panthers and the Jackets winning in Carolina. Only 5 games for this Friday night. Lets see if the Rangers can build off their blowout win over the Flyers as they visit Washington. The two North Divisions match ups look intriguing. The Habs return off their 5 game roadie while the Canucks won the first two of their road trip in Ottawa. The Leafs are off a nice little break in their schedule and host the Flames, who are coming off a blowout loss at home to the Oilers. The Oilers are now tied with the Leafs for first place in the North Division!
**I have started to research teams that come off at least a 5 game road trip and how they fare in their first game back home.** Its 4-3 to date. Vancouver fits the system tonight.
Scenario #1 – Teams that are rested, either sitting at home or on the road while their opponent plays the night before. 8-3 in 10 days of tracking it! As well, the under is a nice 6-4-1 in these spots!
Scenario #2 – Teams that are playing each other in back to back games, in which the home team loses the first game, the record of the home team in the second game is 53-32. 3-0 last night!
Scenario #3 – Teams playing back to back road games on consecutive nights tend to go under the total in the 2nd game. So far that trend is 20-19-1 when teams play on the road back to back nights.
Scenario #4 - One last angle I am tracking that is slightly profitable and similar to Scenario #1, is when any team loses the first game of a back to back against the same team, regardless if it’s on the road or at home, those teams are 76-59 in that situation.
Quick stat updates - First period totals going over 3-7 were last night and are 210-245 on the season. Road teams were 4-6 last night and are 214-234 on the season. Game totals going over the total were 2-7-1 last night and are 219-215-13 on the season.
Gamenotes for tonight –
NYR/Caps – Rangers actually won the first 2 meetings head to head this season.
Canucks/Habs – Habs have won 5 of the 7 games so far this season, 5 of those gone over the total too, but they are coming off a long roadie!!
Flames/Leafs – Toronto off the last 4 days, well rested. Leafs have won 3 of 4 head to head, 3 of 4 have gone under the total.
Blues/Sharks – All 6 games head to head this year have been one goal games! STL wins the first one, then SJ wins the second one! That is quite the trend!
Vegas/LA – Knights won both head to head meetings at home this season.
