The 2022 World Junior Championship came to a close this weekend, with Canada defeating Finland in overtime for Gold yesterday.
Mason McTavish, Nathan Gaucher and Olen Zellweger were all part of the Gold medal-winning team for Canada.
McTavish was named tournament MVP, after scoring eight goals and 17 points in eight games. No other player posted numbers that even came close, with the second-highest numbers by an individual player in each category this year being just five goals and 12 points. He also made a save in overtime that will surely go down as one of the tournament’s greatest moments.

Meanwhile, Olen Zellweger had an extremely impressive tournament. The defenseman scored 11 points in seven games, finishing third overall in points and first amongst defensemen. Gaucher managed a goal and two points in seven games.
Goalie Calle Clang also earned a Bronze Medal with Sweden in the tournament. Clang played only two games but did post a .944 save percentage in the limited sample size.
Sasha Pastujov and Ian Moore, who were also participating, did not earn medals, after the United States lost to Czechia in the quarterfinals.
