Game 78 Preview: FLYERS vs. HURRICANES
Interim head coach Scott Gordon's Philadelphia Flyers (37-32-8) are in Raleigh on Saturday on Monday to take on Rod Brind'Amour's Carolina Hurricanes (42-28-7). This is the third of four meetings this season between the teams, and the second and final game in Raleigh. The Flyers are 0-2-0 to date. The Flyers lost, 3-1, at PNC Arena on New Year's Eve. On Jan. 3 in Philadelphia, the Hurricanes prevailed, 5-3.
Flyers Outlook
The Flyers are 22-10-2 over their last 34 games but just 3-5-0 in the last eight. The team is coming off a 5-4 shootout win over Toronto at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night. The team's "tragic number" to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs remains at 2.
Cam Talbot will get the start in goal for the Flyers on Saturday afternoon. Shayne Gostisbehere will be a healthy scratch, while Samuel Morin remains in the lineup. Morin will not play on Sunday against the Rangers, per Gordon.
Hurricanes Outlook
The Canes sit in the upper wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference but are only one point ahead of both Columbus and Montreal. Carolina has played one fewer game than the Maple Leafs. Carolina is 6-4-0 in its last 10 games, with back-to-back regulation losses coming into this game. On Thursday, the Hurricanes sustained a 3-2 setback at the hands of the Washington Capitals.
