Follow @stlgoalie The Blues completed a perfect four game home stand with a 3-1 win over the Vegas Golden Knights, putting themselves on the brink of qualifying for the playoffs.
The Blues opened the scoring in the final minutes of the 3rd period thanks to a play that might have looked familiar to Blues fans. Much like Jordan Binnington did a few games ago, Malcolm Subbam made a poor decision to try and execute a back hand pass around his net. His execution was as poor as his strategy and he easily turned the puck over to Zach Sanford who fed Ivan Barbashev out front for the goal.
It was good to see Carl Gunnarsson get back into game even though he only played 12 minutes and didn’t register a shot or a hit. Gunnarsson and Bortuzzo combined for less ice time than Alex Pietrangelo. Vince Dunn did log 20 minutes of ice time.
NHL Champions for Charity We’ve gotten some traction on the charity wager among the Central Division bloggers. One charity I’ll highlight is Meagan’s Walk http://meaganswalk.com from your Blackhawk’s Blogger Justin Lowe. Meagan’s Walk seeks to bring hope and awareness to cancerous brain tumors, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children and young people.
While the Blues did their part to clinch a playoff spot by Friday (sweeping the home stand), the other NHL teams did not with the Coyotes defeating the Blackhawks and the Avalanche defeating the Golden Knights. As a result, the Blues will control their next opportunity to clinch when they visit the Rangers for a 6pm CST Friday night game.
In other news, Dallas Stars goalie Ben Bishop exited the game last night with a lower body injury and is listed day to day but isn’t capable currently as even serving as the backup goalie. It’s a great day for hockey.
