The Hawks are currently enjoying a nice break between games, which might be just what the doctor ordered after the disaster of a performance last Saturday against the Jets. There isn’t much to discuss regarding that game as the major storyline coming out of it was Arvid Soderblom left after the 2nd period due to injury. When I heard this, I couldn’t help but wonder with all the injuries piling up in net, if this was the Hockey Gods showing their anger at this team for defying expectations and intervening to smash this team back to reality. However, when one door closes, another opens and this gave rookie Dylan Wells the opportunity to see his first NHL action and he did pretty Well(s) is you ask me. He stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced and if he was nervous at all, he definitely didn’t show it. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t rally around him as they got shutout 4-0 and dropped to 5-5-2 on the season.
Speaking of goalie injuries, Monday afternoon, Kyle Davidson made a series of moves as he activated Petr Mrazek (Groin) from the IR, placed Alec Stralock (Concussion Protocol) on the IR, and waived Dylan Wells. Wells being sent to waivers is a good sign that Soderblom is or will be healthy by the time the Hawks hit the ice again later this week.
Other than that, its been a quiet few days for the Hawks, and when you compare that to what the Bruins are currently going through with the Mitchel Miller Saga, I will gladly take the quiet.
I will be back later this week with a preview for the LA Kings rematch, but until then if you’re in Chicago enjoy the last few days of decent weather as mother mature is about to fling us in to winter weather.
