Team USA Podcast & Off Day Notes (world junior championship)

Watch and listen as Dave Starman and I discuss USA's 2-1 shootout win over Finland at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal...

Team USA held a fairly intense practice during this afternoon during the off day and worked on line rushes, their transition game, some special teams and had some fun with the game winning shots component to finish things up.

Starting the tournament against a strong opponent like Finland and especially allowing a blooper goal in the first 1:22 of the game has given them the opportunity to get dialed in real quick. There was a lot of focus and intention on the ice today as they prepared for their next opponent, Germany.

Had a chance to chat with Steve Santini (BC, NJD) as he remains with the team, despite being cut from the roster due to injury. I'll have more for you on this tomorrow, as well as some tidbits on Will Butcher (Denver, COL), but the short of it is that he's become very good friends with a weighted stick shaft these past five days as he works on grip strength and range of motion in his wrist and is very honored USA Hockey invited him to stay with the team even if only temporarily.

If you have questions, let me know. There's a good chance I'll be in the mood to answer them while watching the games tonight.
