Something Needs To Change (Devils)

At a time where the Devils, a veteran team with playoff aspirations, need wins to try and crawl back into the race, they can't seem to come by them while they are handing them out to other teams left, right and center.

After a respectable start to the season, the Devils have won just three of their last 15 games, and have blown several leads while looking lifeless at times in the process.

Not including shootouts, the Devils have scored just 27 goals (1.8 per game) during this stretch while allowing 42 goals (2.8 per game) for a difference of a full goal per game. That's not very good.

What makes it worse is they've been outplayed/outshot, significantly in some cases, almost every night including against some bad teams like Philadelphia, Carolina, etc. and have been embarrassed in the process.

Their defense is fine and has potential to be very good, but beyond that, and what looks to be a formidable goaltending duo in Cory Schneider and Keith Kinkaid, there's not much to be excited about going forward.

The Devils aren't relevant right now, and by the time they're truly ready to make some noise Jaromir Jagr, Dainius Zubrus, Martin Havlat and Marek Zidlicky, among others, will all be gone.

That's why, with the Devils extremely unlikely to make the playoffs this year, it makes sense to sell off some of these veteran players for any young assets they can get their hands on, because they don't have many.

The Devils will probably ride this out a little longer, but at some point something needs to change. And everyone knows it.
