In somewhat of a surprise the Devils have placed forward Damien Brunner on waivers, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
While Brunner's numbers are nothing to write home about - he has seven points in 17 games - this move doesn't make a lot of sense.
The Devils have struggled to fill the net on a consistent basis this season and they're quite banged up at forward right now, so the timing is odd, too.
Another thing worth noting is that Brunner was one of a few forwards the team has with legitimate speed and by waiving him the Devils lose that threat.
I imagine there's a decent chance Brunner is claimed off waivers, as he is a free agent at years end and carries a reasonable cap hit of $2.5 million.
