There had been a lot of talk about whether the Minnesota defenseman Mike Reilly would forgo his senior season to play pro hockey, but the Blue Jackets prospect confirmed that will be the case.
Via the Star Tribune: “[I] will not be returning [next season] and will know more after the [World Championships] tournament,… Reilly said. “I don’t want to talk too much about my situation. But I am going to worlds the 25th [of April] and I’m very excited.…
#CBJ have not been informed that D Mike Reilly has officially de-committed from Minnesota. They have 30 drays from then, or June 1 ...

— Aaron Portzline (@Aportzline) April 9, 2015Portzline has maintained the stance that Reilly likely won't sign in Columbus for a while now, so you'd be ignorant to expect anything different.
If and when Reilly shuns the Blue Jackets, it'll be a tough pill to swallow as defense is an area that they could certainly improve. Not only that but, while the team's prospect system as a whole is very good, there aren't many defense prospects close to NHL ready in the system, so they'll likely have to look for help outside of the organization this summer.
This is just the latest case of bad news for the Jackets in a year that's been full of it.
