With so many coaching vacancies Pete DeBoer was bound to draw interest this summer, and that appears to be the case.
After winning a gold medal with Canada while running the forwards as an assistant coach, DeBoer's focus is on getting back in the NHL, and he has no shortage in suitors.
DeBoer has already interviewed in Edmonton, and is high on their list, but it sounds like the Oilers will get their top guy in Todd McLellan.
It just so happens that McLellan's former employers are also interested in DeBoer.
Pete DeBoer was also on Edmtn's radar. It's believed the Sharks want a second interview with DeBoer. Bylsma, Carlyle and Dave Lowry in mix
— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) May 17, 2015An interview shows a team has interest, but not often does a coach get two interviews with the same team unless they're very serious about that candidate.
The Sharks have plenty of star power and, though they are aging, there are some good young players in place (Tomas Hertl, Melker Karlsson and Mirco Mueller, among others) that should help keep the team competitive.
DeBoer only had an above average - or even average - forward core to work with once during his seven year NHL coaching career, and that was his first season in New Jersey. DeBoer took the Devils to the Stanley Cup final that year.
Scoring forwards won't be on short supply if he goes to San Jose.
I think DeBoer is a good coach and he deserves another chance. Luckily for DeBoer it seems likely a team will give him one.
