Steve Yzerman is set to meet with the agents for Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane (both with Pat Brisson) and David Perron (Alan Walsh). It seems like throwing Kane’s name into the discussion feels a little like click bait as all signs seem to point to a departure. Raymond, though, is going to be an important and interesting set of conversations.
As for Perron, the veteran winger has expressed a desire to stay, but there are multiple comments from some of the regulars here that don’t want DP back on the ice in a winged wheel. I’m reserving all thoughts just to stay away from getting tangled in something that may not come to fruition. If it does, there will be no shortage of conversations.
Yzerman’s signing of Rychlovsky is getting some praise in different corners of the internet. The career year for the Czech player made waves, and it didn’t go unnoticed. There definitely seems to be positive momentum for that player.
At this point, I’m doing a quick update on the broadcast situation, please don’t read ahead if that’s not your bag. I was hoping to avoid this but something bizarre hit Crain’s of Detroit.
Crain’s Detroit reported that Diamond sports (previous owner of Bally’s) may not make the summer. Bally’s was dissolved and Diamond took the name using Amazon to help with streaming. Unfortunately, Comcast kicked the new Bally’s off of their service. The streaming subs aren’t getting the numbers needed.
Very quietly, TNT is losing the NBA to NBC and that’s a painful chunk. NBC is dropping money to get sports back and the NHL would be smart to head that direction. All of ESPN has been said by Disney CEO Bob Iger to be heading to streaming in 2025. Broadcast options are running out.
The Diamond/Amazon partnership seemed like a solid step in the right direction. Unfortunately it’s not yielding the needed revenue. TNT’s loss of the NBA is not a good sign. Wherever this lands, the NHL fans just want to know where and how to watch the games. The league needs to pick a path and put this mess in the rear view mirror
