In this edition of the hotstove, we share our thoughts on the trade the Rick Nash trade.
OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, defenseman Ryan Lindgren, forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, and a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft from the Bruins in exchange for Rick Nash.

I actually like this deal for both sides.
Rick Nash is a big time chance generator at 5v5 and a better goal scorer/two-way player than Ryan Spooner. Their counting numbers are similar but Spooner has benefited from much more favorable zone starts. Nash is a definite upgrade on a team that has a legitimate shot at contending for the Stanley Cup.
As for what the Rangers received, a middle-6 forward, who can produce in soft minutes, and a 1st is a solid return for a rental. I Ryan Lindgren's ceiling is as a depth guy and Matt Beleskey is just a throw in for cap reasons.
Peter Tessier This is a trade that when looking at all the pieces the Bruins are probably a better team than they were before acquiring Nash. Now the money swaps and such may have an effect down the road but not to any massive degree.
The Bruins see a chance right now and they have gone for it by getting Holden and Nash. Given their core and structure Nash should be able to hold his own with Boston and provide some assistance on both the scoring and two-way game fronts. Now if Nash does his traditional hide and seek in the post season this deal may not be ugly for what was given up but that the Bruins did not get what they thought they would with him. That's the risk, but I'd probably still take it if I were Boston.
Jared Crozier I guess the Bruins get out from half of the remaining 3 years of Beleskey's mistake of a contract, which is a good thing.
As for adding Nash, a player who I really like, Spooner might be almost as good a player player at this point in time and definitely going forward. Toss in a first round pick and a solid defensive prospect in Ryan Lindgren and I think overall the Rangers make out like bandits in this trade.
