Sabres Retro Branding Tease? (sabres)

Jack Eichel, Ryan O'Reilly and Jason Pominville represented the Buffalo Sabres on Friday at the official launch presser for the 2018 NHL Winter Classic. The Sabres will be the home team when the en garde with the NY Rangers on New Years Day.

Coincidentally, Pominville is the only Sabres player to have played in the first ever Winter Classic in Buffalo back in 2008. Pominville, the former Sabres captain, was traded back to the Sabres on June 30 after spending four seasons with the Minnesota Wild.

Thanks, Sabres.com

I love watching and attending the Winter Classic and I can't wait to see Eichel, ROR and Pommer go deep at the Stadium where the NY Mets play. I don't get a royalty to mention the sponsor of the ballpark so I won't mention it.

So, I was watching the presser, which also starred Rangers players Rick Nash and Ryan McDonagh as well as Gary Bettman and I could not help but notice the fresh version of the Sabres logo being shown on the stadium HD scoreboard.

I like this logo and color scheme. In fact, I love it.

Being a child of the 1970s, I have vivid lifelong memories of blowing high dough to watch my beloved French Connection Line perform their unique brand of twig and puck wizardry.

This leaked logo reminds me a lot of retro '70s memories. Fine by me!

The commemorative Sabres and Rangers logos were also snapped out on the official NHL Snapchat story.

Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think of the design.

Are NHL folks trolling Sabres Nation or is this sexy logo indeed the official insignia for the Sabres' Winter Classic sweaters?

Hell hath no fury like a Sabres fan scorned. The NHL better not be busting the onions of Sabres fans, who have already begun the process of designing their own version of the Buffalo Sabres Winter Classic sweater.
