Red Wings’ Fabbri out for a month as other teams look to make some moves (Red Wings)

Robby Fabbri went from day to day to “out for four weeks… today. While injury to the forward is not anything new, there is some interesting activity around the league right now.

Detroit has cap space, but not a lot of it. 4.4 million according to cap friendly. Fabbri, should he be moved to LTIR, would take a 4 million dollar AAV off the books. All of a sudden, you’re in flexible territory.

CBJ is getting Werenski back and sending Boqvist to the press box and Liam Foudy is on waivers. Vancouver is closer to moving Connor Garland, and other teams are having internal issues due to cap space. There is no legitimate reason to think that Yzerman has any plans, but this would be an ideal time to have them.

Detroit has won 3 straight but Pittsburgh came awfully close to wiping out a 3 goal lead altogether. There’s no reason to believe that anyone is packing their bags right now, but the current GM keeps his moves close to the vest. Tomorrow Detroit will visit Ottawa who is having some salary cap issues at the moment. The ingredients are in place, but that doesn’t guarantee that dinner is on the way.

The team is still finding its “new identity…, but the drop off on the blue line feels fairly severe regardless of how much time will go by. It would be difficult to see Yzerman and co feeling strongly enough about the team at this point to make a deal that would boost the squad. If something is in the works, let me know your thoughts on what you’d like to see happen. If Fabbri heads to LTIR and Detroit has some space, how would you like to see it used?
