Quick Hits: Lycksell, Flyers Wives Carnival, Dailey and More (Flyers)

Quick Hits: August 24, 2018

1) SHL preseason: Flyers forward prospect Olle Lycksell scored in overtime for Linköpings HC in a 3-2 preseason win over Djurgà¥rdens IF on Thursday. Lycksell, who scored his third goal of the preseason, centered LHC's second line. Flyers 2018 2nd-round pick Adam Ginning played on the first defense pairing with Mattias Bà¤ckman. Flyers defense prospect David Bernhardt plays for Djurgà¥rden.

2) The Flyers announced the date for the 2018 Flyers Wives Carnival. This year's event will take place on Sunday, Nov. 18. As always, the Carnival will be held at the Wells Fargo Center.

3) Today in Flyers history: On Aug. 24, 1982, the late Bob "the Count" Dailey announced his retirement at age 29. Dailey suffered a shattered ankle during a disastrous game in Buffalo on Nov. 1, 1981 after being bumped by Tony McKegney. Dailey's ankle was compared to a small vase that was dropped onto a hard floor. On the same night, the late Pelle Lindbergh made his NHL debut and ended up hospitalized overnight due to severe dehydration. The Flyers lost the game, 6-2. Dailey briefly attempted a comeback in 1985-86 but realized after five games with the Hershey Bears that he could no longer compete.

4) August 24 Flyers Alumni birthdays: Norm Barnes (1953), Don "Smokie" McLeod (1946-2011).

5) The 3rd Annual WCRE Celebrity Charity Hockey Game will take place on Sat. Sept. 22 at the Skate Zone in Voorhees at 5 p.m. A buffet after-party and auction event follows from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Victory Bar and Grill on Rte. 73 in West Berlin. Tickets cost $15 for the game and $40 ($20 for children 12 and under) for a combination ticket to the game plus the after-party.

Flyers Hall of Fame left wing Brian Propp, who works for WCRE (Wolf Commercial Real Estate) as its director of strategic relationships, will be joined on the ice by fellow Flyers Alumni Kjell Samuelsson, Brad Marsh,Todd Fedoruk, Doug Crossman, and Andre Faust. Other participants include iconic Flyers public address announcer Lou Nolan as the emcee, longtime NHL referee and South Jersey resident Kerry Fraser officiating, as well as more than 30 local business leaders, and 85 sponsors.

All proceeds from the event will benefit seven local organizations: the Flyers Alumni Association (specifically, going toward the Alumni's pledge to build a new local rink for the kids of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation), the Rowan Medicine CARES Institute, the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey, The Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, the American Cancer Society, The Susan G. Komen Foundation of Philadelphia and the Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice.
