Quick Hits: First Roster Cuts, Rookie Game, Kosorenkov & More (Flyers)

QUICK HITS: SEPT. 14, 2017

1) Today is the first official day of the Flyers' 2017 training camp, although on-ice work with coaches does not start until tomorrow morning. Today was Media Day (players taking their head shot and full uniform photos and video clips) as well as the conclusion of testing and physicals.

2) On Friday morning at the Skate Zone in Voorhees, Group A is slated to take to the ice at roughly 9:45 a.m. EDT. As always, the sessions are free and open to the public.

3) The Flyers made their first-round of roster cuts at camp, reassigning 2017 draftees Morgan Frost, Isaac Ratcliffe, Matthew Strome and Maksim Sushko back to their OHL junior teams. Frost and Ratcliffe are both already under entry-level contract (ELC) to the Flyers and the contracts will slide for the 2017-18 season. All of these cuts were expected, as none of these players were considered NHL candidates this season. They either lack physical maturity (particularly the skilled and speedy Frost) and/or otherwise have aspects of their games that need refinement.

4) Undrafted training camp invite Ivan Kosorenkov is still with the club as main camp begins. I have a hunch -- that is all is it is, as no one has said a word about it on-record or off-record -- that when he eventually goes back to the QMJHL's Victoriaville Tigres, he will do so with a Flyers ELC that slides for the reason rather than via release from his tryout.

Side note: Kosorenkov had some good shifts in Wednesday's Rookie Game against the Islanders at the Wells Fargo Center. The best all-around player on his line, not unexpectedly, was countryman Mikhail Vorobyev but Kosorenkov also had a pretty good game.

5) Speaking of the Rookie Game, you can read my takeaways from last night's tilt over on the the Flyers' official website.

6) Flyers Alumni Birthday: Orest Kindrachuk (1950).
