Game Summary: Tonight’s game was a bit of an opposite as far as goaltending went. Last night Allen only let in 1 goal when Detroit had 40 shots (they scored 2 empty netters). Tonight, the Wings scored 5 goals on 21 shots and Nedeljkovic only let in 2 on 39 New Jersey shots. New Jersey fans were chanting for the firing of their coach in the 3rd period.
Bertuzzi left the game in the 2nd after blocking a shot. I’ll give you a hint, he has either an upper or lower body injury. Kubalik ended up skating with Larkin and Raymond a bit and that line looked good. Larkin’s buzzer beater in the second was one of those goals it would have been fun to see in person.
Only 2 games in, this feels like a very different team. Of course, it literally is with several personnel changes on and off the ice. Regardless, Yzerman continues to build something special. Vrana had a beauty as he jumped on the ice for the injured Bertuzzi. Perron snapped a nice quick shot in front of the net. Chiarot had a beautiful wrist shot from pretty far out, just inside the blue line.
Again, seeing physical play. Even Raymond is jumping in and he’s not the biggest player by any stretch. It really is like watching a new team. The power play, however, seems to have needed some help again. That is not something new, not even close. But only 2 games in, we’ll see if that changes.
Seider continues to be a fun watch. He can get to the puck and keep it in the zone more often than not. Zadina still hasn’t had a shot on the ice. Pius Suter took Veleno’s place tonight and I felt like Joe looked better last night than Suter looked tonight. We’ll see if that trend continues.
A good game, a day off, then right back to it.
First Period Red Wings goals: No Wings goals in first, looked like they weren’t ready to start.
Second Period Red Wings goals: Much better start in second. At 2 minute mark Chiarot had a beautiful wrister from the point that went high, far corner all the way from just inside the blue line. Really nice shot. Larkin with the apple.

At 4:34 Vrana takes a pass from Raymond fresh off the bench after Bert went off on a nasty block (Chiarot possibly on 2nd assist) and makes a beautiful snipe.

At around the 17 minute mark Perron gets his first as a Wing. Maata caused a nice turn over behind the NJ net then a pass from Vrana right on the stick of Perron who is right in front of the net. Nice quick play.

With .8 seconds left Larkin makes a beautiful top corner shot right after the NJ goalie lost his stick off a hard wrist shot. Never quite until you hear the horn. Wings now up 4-2 after entering period down 1-0. Assists for Copp and Hronek. Actually looks like Vanecek redirected puck w/blocker.

Third Period Red Wings goals:
At the 10:55 mark Kubalik scores a nice low backhand shot after a quick give and go with Raymond (seconds after the broadcast noted how tight coverage on Raymond had been). Larkin helped by winning a board battle, the puck then went to Kubalik who passed to Raymond and then the 2nd yr pro returned the favor. The Wings have 5 goals on just 19 shots. Crowd is chanting, “fire Lindsey…. I didn’t know he was playing that shift…
