Looks like the Penguins are going to hold on to their best left D man (Penguins)

Over the past few months there’s been multiple times where rumors of Marcus Pettersson being traded have come up. The Penguins wanted to shed some cap space and were willing to move him. Instead, they settled on the trade where Mike Matheson was moved for Jeff Petry.

Although, even after the Matheson/Petry trade there were still some mild rumblings about the Penguins moving Pettersson. According to Elliotte Friedman that idea is on pause.

7. A couple of sources have told me to “stand down… on Marcus Pettersson and Vancouver rumours.

The Vancouver connection isn’t a surprise considering the Jim Rutherford link. Rutherford traded away Daniel Sprong to acquire Pettersson and was also the one who gave him his 4M cap hit. With Marcus Pettersson is likely the Penguins best left defenseman I’m not sure it is a wise idea to put all your eggs in the Brian Dumoulin basket. In fact, I think it would be a bad idea to do so. After Pettersson and Dumoulin you are talking about Ty Smith and Pierre-Olivier Joseph. Quite the risk. For now, it looks like a risk they are unwilling to take.
