For the latest Leafs updates or Follow @mikeinbuffalo on Twitter The resumption of the NHL regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs is still in question in spite of the encouraging news over the last week, but that is not going to prevent us at Hockeybuzz from providing daily content for our readers. We will continue to provide you with updates on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as it relates to the season, but we will also report on news specific to the Toronto Maple Leafs and reflect on the club’s season and player performances through 70 games.
Today we continue with the player report card by looking at a couple more of the Leafs forwards:
William Nylander
The Leafs 2014 top pick looked to put a lengthy contract impasse and disappointing performance last season behind him, and was largely successful in doing so in his fifth NHL season. Nylander was second behind Auston Matthews in goals(31), even-strength goals(22), power-play goals(9) and led the club with seven game-winning goals.
Grade - A-
Frederik Gauthier
Gauthier has made remarkable strides since being the Leafs first-round pick in 2013, working on his skating to be able to keep pace with the ever-quickening NHL and has developed into a useful depth forward, scoring a career-high seven goals in 61 games and leading Toronto with a 55.4% faceoff success rate.
