The Islanders have activated defenseman Johnny Boychuk off injured reserve this morning and is expected to play tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. Boychuk missed the last six weeks with a lower-body injury suffered on December 27.
Boychuk's absence was clearly felt as the Islanders went 6-10-4 and allowed 3.6 goals per game. He will help but this defense needs a lot more help.
Thomas Greiss is expected to start tonight. The Islanders are looking for a bit of revenge against the Red Wings, dropping their first meeting this season 6-3 at Barclays Center on Dec. 19. The Islanders led 3-2 in the second period, but the Red Wings scored four unanswered goals to win. It's another one of those game the Islanders can look at when they missed the playoffs.
Speaking of pissing away points, the Islanders certainly did that last night in Buffalo. They finally outshot an opponent, but somehow found themselves down 3-0 in the second period. New York battled back to tie the game in the third period, just over a minute later the Sabres regained the lead for good.
