Devils Fans Deserve Better (Devils)

The New Jersey Devils are in a constant cycle of hope and disappointment. The Devils lost again in a shootout to the Ottawa Senators last night 3-2. As a consolation prize for making it to overtime, the Devils gained a much needed point, but that is simply not enough.

This team needs to do better. Yes, the Devils ran into a suddenly hot Senators team whom have won three straight after last night’s performance. But these are the games you are supposed to win if you are a good hockey team, especially on your home ice. Now, the Devils are in the middle of a four game losing streak.

And we’ve read this script before.

Since 2015, it has been the forever rebuild that just keeps rebuilding with no end in sight. We have been teased along the way with two first overall draft picks and promises of glory in the future. So far, we have seen only glimpses of brilliance but still no reward for being generously patient throughout “the process… with HBSE (Harris Blitzer Sports Entertainment). Devils fans more than anything want to be rewarded with a perennial Stanley Cup contender.

There has been a lack of focus from an organizational standpoint on winning. All hype with no results and accountability. In the meantime, fans have been distracted by the team’s over the top marketing gimmicks over the years to numb the pain of mediocrity of a once proud Stanley Cup winning franchise. Before you know it, there will be another NHL draft to look forward to by the Christmas break.

That has been the vicious cycle for the past six years. Hope and disappointment. Then rinse and repeat.

After years of promises that end up in frustrations, Devils fans deserve a winning product on the ice.
